Paula Badosa Withdraws from Charleston and Future Tournaments Due to Back Injury

Spanish tennis star Paula Badosa has confirmed she will not compete in the upcoming WTA 500 tournament in Charleston. The 27-year-old Catalan, currently ranked 11th in the world, made the announcement following her recent withdrawal from the Miami Open due to an ongoing back injury.

On Monday, Badosa was forced to retire from her match at the Miami Open after experiencing persistent back pain. Just a day later, she addressed fans via Instagram, revealing that her recovery will keep her out of competition for a longer period than initially expected.

“Hi everyone. As you know, I had to pull out of Miami and I won’t be able to play in the upcoming tournaments either,” she wrote. The former Indian Wells champion acknowledged the emotional and physical toll of the situation, adding, “It’s really tough to deal with the pain and to constantly stop and try to return to top form again.”

Badosa explained that she is now entering another recovery phase, expressing hope that she will return to the court soon. “Now it’s time to go through the recovery process again. I hope to see you all soon. Thanks for your continued support,” she added.

The organizers of the Charleston Open, set to take place next week, confirmed her withdrawal in an official statement on Tuesday. “We wish her a speedy recovery and hope to see her back in action soon,” tournament officials shared on X, formerly known as Twitter.

This isn’t the first time Badosa has had to miss significant events due to health issues. Earlier this season, she also withdrew from Indian Wells, a tournament she won in 2021, citing the same back problems.

Her recurring injury raises concerns about her ability to maintain consistent form on the WTA Tour, especially as the clay-court season approaches. Badosa’s decision to step away from several tournaments suggests she is prioritizing long-term health over short-term results — a move that may be necessary but frustrating for a player of her caliber.

As fans await her return, Badosa’s absence will be felt across the women’s circuit. Known for her powerful baseline game and mental toughness, she has been a consistent presence in major tournaments over the past few years. Her next steps will largely depend on how her recovery progresses and whether she can avoid further setbacks.

For now, Badosa remains focused on healing and regaining full fitness. While the timeline for her comeback remains uncertain, she continues to receive strong support from fans and the tennis community alike.
